Furniture movers outside of Florida may need some Do-It-Yourself experience. If you are a budding DIY expert we have our checklist for you today. These are the tips we use ourselves in each move.
A rushed move is usually a bad move. Start your planning process early. All the other tips on this list revolve around this one. Without it your stress goes through the roof. Moving teams can handle rushed deliveries but it creates extra stress for you.
Hire or Create Your Team.
If you are moving yourself then it’s time to call in favors. Family members and old friends are a few people you can ask. If you have enough money you should hire a team though. It can save you a great deal of time and effort.
Get Special Equipment
Having some sort of truck is essential. There are many places where you can rent your own. Keep in mind that even if you can get a vehicle it may not be the right size.
Hire an Appraiser
For most people, this is not something you need. For those with valuable items you must. Appraisers give you peace of mind and an accessible document.
Recliners often have removable backs. Some mattress box springs fold. Many other items have screws you can detach. Disassembling these pieces makes them much easier to carry.
Clearing the clutter helps with any move. That same rule applies here. If you cannot recycle an item you can throw it away. There are many places for you to rent bins for your move. What about the furniture itself? There are actually many people who make their living off scrap. Search for them online or in your newspaper. Many of these people would love to take items off your hands.
High and Low Carrying
Heavy items need the “high and low” carrying method. This means that one person holds one end up high. The other person holds the bottom and walks backward. With this method, the weight of the item sits in the middle. This adds stability to items that would otherwise swing around.
Stand Couches on their End
Couches are both heavy and hard to handle. Their shape also makes it difficult to get through doors. Because of this, you should stand a couch on its end when moving it through a door. This saves anyone from injury and lets you inch it through.
Shoulder Dollies or Straps are Your Friends
If you can buy some of these they work wonders. They strap to your shoulders and the item as well. Each one allows you to carry the furniture. This makes a difficult task much easier. Only use these if you are on level ground though. Elevation causes problems for these devices.
These serve a similar purpose to the dollies. Your forearms hold these straps though. You need some people with powerful arms for this type of movement. Despite this restriction, they are useful for lifting especially large items.
Never Drag or Slide Items
Would you like to damage your home? Of course not, so be sure not to drag or slide furniture. Doing so can scrape or even tear a floor panel.
Any mover worth the money uses these. Ramps turn back-breaking labor into easy rolling. A moving team has some of these but you can also rent them.
We hope that you move with us. Whether you hire a team or not we wish you a safe move. Follow these tips and avoid costly mistakes. As with anything in life take a break sometimes. Be sure not to overdo it.
